The Audience Tab
CredSpark’s Audience Tab allows you to create and track “attributes” across multiple interactions, helping you streamline your data collection and ensure you’re getting the most value from your interactive content.
Attributes Defined
An “attribute” is a label you can assign to multiple different questions in order to easily aggregate those responses across interactions.
Attributes are exciting in part because they enable you to avoid asking known users the same question more than once. The key here is “known users”--we can only skip a question if we know that a person has answered it. In order for a person to be considered a “known” user, they must either enter a recognized email address OR have CredSpark’s cookie still attached to their browser. If a known user clears their cookies or uses an incognito tab, they may see a previously-answered attribute question, even if you have set it not to display.
Creating Attributes
Only Admins can create Attributes, and once created, they are available to all Teams/Users in an Organization.
Here’s how to add one:
- Go to the 'Audience' tab at the top navigation bar.
- Click on the “Add” button.
- Name your attribute clearly and descriptively, such as Company, or, Country. This helps in easily identifying and tracking that attribute later in your data analysis.
TIP: A well-named attribute is key to effective data organization and analysis. If you are using attributes to manage questions about sign-ups, for example, consider naming each attribute with the specific thing a person is signing up for. The question types First Name Last Name, and Email come with pre-assigned default attributes that cannot be modified. You have the flexibility to configure their response handling, a process that will be detailed in the following paragraph.
Using Attributes
Once an Admin has created an attribute, any user can add an attribute to a question. Here’s how:
- Assign in Question Modal: Go to the attribute tab in the question modal to assign your attribute.
- Set Response Handling: Decide how the app should handle repeat questions with the same attribute:
- Display question and pre-fill with previous answer: Shows the question with the user's previous answer for confirmation or updates.
- Display question, do not pre-fill: Presents the question as new, requiring a fresh response.
- Do not display question: Skips the question for a quicker experience.
Note: a question can only be linked to one attribute.
The More You Know…
Checkbox Questions: If you are using the 'Hide if Previously Answered' option, we will hide only those checkbox questions that have been previously checked.
For Multiple Choice Questions: To ensure consistency, use the same answer choices for questions linked to the same attribute. Different answer choices may lead to the question being displayed again, potentially overwriting the previous attribute value.
Let’s say you want to ask this question, tagged with the attribute “Dog food purchase preference”:
Where do you prefer to buy dog food?
- In store
- Online
Let’s then say you decide to ask a similar question in another survey, but this time you write
Where do you most often buy dog food?
- In a store
- Online
- From my vet
It is NOT a best practice to tag this second question with “Dog food purchase preference,” because it’s a slightly different question and it has different answer choices–if you aggregate these responses, you may end up with misleading/incorrect data.
Attribute reporting
Currently, attribute reporting is limited to the interaction level. We plan to provide global attribute reporting in a future release, but wanted to enable you to start collecting attribute data ASAP.
Questions with attributes will have a small tag icon next to them. When reviewing your data, please be aware that if you have set an attribute question to be hidden if previously answered, the respondent’s original answer will be included in the reporting, even though they will not have seen/answered the question in this particular interaction. We made this decision to ensure you had easy access to a complete dataset for each interaction.
FAQs
Can I add attributes to existing questions?
Yes. However, attribute data will only be collected once that attribute has been added.
Can I edit an attribute?
Yes, you can edit the text of an attribute in the Audience tab using the pencil icon. This will only change the attribute's text; it will not affect any data already collected.
What if I delete the attribute from a question? Or delete a question that has an attribute?
Updating or deleting questions won't affect the Audience data already collected. If you delete a question from a quiz, or delete an entire interaction, those questions and answers will also be deleted. However, any answers submitted to questions tagged with an attribute will be retained, as they are stored separately with other attribute data. So, if you delete a survey that contains a question tagged with the attribute “Company,” while that survey and its data will be deleted, anyone who has answered that question will keep the attribute “Company” associated with their record.
What happens if I delete an attribute from the Audience page?
Deleting an attribute from the Audience tab will result in the removal of that attribute from all questions where it is currently applied, along with all the data associated with it. However, it's important to note that this action does not delete the data collected at the question level. You will still retain the individual responses to the questions, but these responses will no longer be linked to the deleted attribute or tracked in relation to it across different interactions.
Maximizing Data Potential: Today's Actions, Tomorrow's Opportunities
CredSpark is evolving, and we're excited to share how our new audience and attribute features are transforming data management. Traditionally, our focus has been on interaction-level performance. Now, we're expanding to offer a comprehensive, global view of your data. This significant shift is rolling out in phases, and here’s what you can expect:
Attribute Creation and Question Assignment (Current Stage): This feature, already live in the app, allows you to create attributes and link them to questionsYou can decide whether a question appears as new, displays pre-filled with a previous answer, or is skipped if previously answered. We advise starting to track your attributes now, so you'll have a rich dataset ready when our reporting tools launch.
- Users Tab (Expected in 2024 Q2/Q3): This new tab will showcase users who have interacted with attribute-tagged questions. Here, you can access user data collected through CredSpark, apply filters, and learn more about your audience.
- Enhanced Reporting (Expected in 2024 Q4): Elevate your analysis with advanced reporting capabilities. You’ll gain deeper insights into user profiles and the ability to generate detailed graphs from your collected data, enabling more strategic decision-making.
- Import/Export with Third-Party Data (Expected in 2025 Q1): Recognizing that CredSpark isn't your only data repository, this final update will facilitate seamless data integration with external sources, helping you consolidate and streamline your data management.
Please note that these feature rollouts and timelines are subject to change as we continuously strive to refine our offerings to better serve your needs.
